  1. Sometimes it’s better to celebrate before or after Valentine’s Day. Restaurants are less crowded and you don’t get stuck paying for extravagant “Valentine’s Day meal specials.”

    1. Congratulations Ria! You’ve been selected as one of the winners for my Birthday Giveaway!

  2. We avoid Valentine’s Day things. If we go out on the actual holiday, we like to go to an arcade where you win tickets for playing. It lets us have fun, be competitive, and spend the tickets on a cheesy souvenir! We set a limit on how many tokens we’ll buy – but you can certainly stretch the fun!

  3. Gabby!!!!
In the past, we would order food from a restaurant (Saltgrass was our tradition) to pick up and take back home. That way you avoid the crowded restaurants!

We would also make sure we took time to play one of our favorite romantic songs and dance to it. It’s amazing how little eye contact you have with each other during busy weeks. Dancing helps that.

Cheap options are quick acts of service – like this year, i’m making a “work package” for my husband – it’ll have a small bottle of lotion (the manly kind of course), a travel cup to keep his coffee hot, his fav candy and a sweet note.
    Happy Birthday!!

  4. I always make chocolate covered strawberries! Growing up with a single momma. She always got the family together for Italian night. Everybody brought a dish, most of my uncles worked nights, so everyone would come so nobody would have to be alone of Valentines day. And all the kids would get little gift bags. Now that I have my own little munchkin I forsee us watching movies and making some stir fry! My guy was always overseas so we only spent one Valentines together. Dancing under the moonlight out in the country and it was perfect!

    1. Yum! Nothing says Valentine’s Day like pasta and yummy treats. I am announcing winners tomorrow so check back! 🙂

  5. We are going to dinner and then a broadway show for about $100. Saw some great deals advertised by our local news stations. Lots of retailers and restaurants are offering some really good deals.

    1. Yes! I’m quick to find the sales and coupons for Valentine’s Day. Thanks for sharing, Randi! I am notifying winners tomorrow so check back!

  6. We don’t do much for Valentine’s Day because my husband usually works but he will get me some flowers. I always tell him to go to Aldi or Trader Joe’s because they don’t have super inflated flower prices. As for decorating, I have a cute door hanger I got a few years back at A.c.Moore that I bought with a 50% off coupon. I also have a garden flag from pier1 that I bought with a gift card. If I were to buy anything now, I’d definitely head to Target’s dollar area bc they have some super cute stuff right now for Valentine’s Day!

    1. Yes, quality time is the most important thing. Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Winners will be notified and announced tomorrow so check back!

  7. I love staying home versus going out to eat on Valentine’s Day. It’s seems like every place in town is super busy. We will all be cooking dinner at home, our favorite Valentines dinner Baked Chicken Parmesan. That was our first Valentines Day dinner together the 1st year we got married. Now our two kids help with dessert, they make their favorite dipped chocolate strawberries with a peanut or coconut drizzle, and my husband makes the salad and decorates the kitchen table with little tea light candles. We all can enjoy a delicious Valentines Dinner with all the fixings for less then $50 for a family of 4. I honestly can’t beat that anywhere else. Happy Valentines Day!!!

    1. What a great idea, making it a family ordeal! I will agree – most restaurants get booked. I prefer staying in also. I will announce winners tomorrow so check back! 🙂

  8. I love Valentines Day! We will usually pick up some salmon or steak and grill out. For dessert I’ll usually pick up cheesecake bites or macaroons from Trader Joes. They are so good and really inexpensive! I also hit up Dollar Tree for cute little V-Day decorations and dress up the kitchen table for the kids!

    1. Interesting, I’ve never tried Valentine’s Day sweets from Trader Joes. Might be something to try this year! 🙂

  10. This year, my boyfriend got me a camera I have been wanting for a long time (It was even on sale!) The best part of the gift, he made me a handmade card! It was so thoughtful. I cherish handmade gifts!

  11. Love to cook our normal Valentines meal (Grilled Steak, Baked Potatoes, green beans and Strawberry cake for dessert. Better than any line you would have to stand if you went to area restaurants! But its very romantic cause we share the clean up and watch our favorite movie: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Hope you have a great Valentines Day with your favorite Valentine!

      1. Congratulations Donna! You’ve been selected as one of the winners for my Birthday Giveaway!

  12. We have a quiet dinner at home. Spaghetti is his favorite – reminds him of his Mom’s cooking and we can reenact Lady and the Tramp while grossing out the kids. LOL. Spaghetti is very low budget, atmosphere is what we make of it where ever we choose to have it. Although Valentine’s Day is once a year- we celebrate our love every day.
