Pet Safe Holiday Parties

Loud noises, lots of people, party favors, food — these are just a few things people tend to bring into their home when they host a holiday party. But have you thought about how you are going to keep your pet safe and stress-free while the festivities are going on?

Create a stress free area: Try to keep them in a place they can go to the bathroom, without being paraded through the party. Also, include their favorite bed, toy, etc

Knowledge is everyone’s friend: Make sure guests know where the pet is so they don’t accidentally startle your furry friend.

Check on your pet frequently: Make sure they have water and something to keep them entertained. If you have a nervous pet, try freezing a hollow toy filled with their favorite treats and sealed with peanut butter.

Avoid human food: If allowing the pet to be part of the party, make sure to keep them on a leash in order to avoid (or at least limit) being given any “people food.” Some food is dangerous for animals.

Knowing what can be harmful can save you an expensive vet bill and possibly your pet’s life.  http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/people-foods.aspx
